Wholesale group insurance is tied to a common employer. An alumni association is not one, so members between jobs, self-employed, or retired before Medicare are left to shop alone.
Without significant pre-existing conditions, healthcare sharing coverage can cost up to 60% less than an unsubsidized ACA plan, commonly called Obamacare. Referrals are not required, and enrollment is not limited to open enrollment.
If a condition must be covered immediately, or a member cannot accept the sharing guidelines, an ACA plan is the better choice. The association can point to either path.
A named health benefit gives staff something practical for newsletters, reunions, and lapsed-member outreach, including spouses and adult children.
What the institution receives
Institutions who partner with AlumniCare and refer members receive a monthly royalty for as long as that referral is actively paying for their healthcare sharing coverage. Those royalties can be reinvested in the institution, whether that means member programs, scholarships, events, or the next outreach.
